September’s Printing Industry News
September has seen some exciting launches in the print world.
Here’s what you need to know, plus, an update from this month’s Premier Print Awards Gala and the InterTech Technology Awards.
New Integrated Embellishment Color Roll-to-Roll Printer from MGI
MGI has launched a new digital roll-to-roll printer with integrated embellishment at September’s Labelexpo Europe 2017 show in Brussels. The new JETvarnish 3D Web Color+ machine offers high-definition printing, semi-rotary die-cutting, and digital embellishment in the form of foiling and spot UV varnishing. To achieve this, the manufacturer has added a toner-based printing module that supports 1200 x 1200 dpi in CMYK to its roll-to-roll embellishment press, the JETvarnish 3D web. The machine also features “Color+” printing technology from Konica Minolta, as part of a long-term collaboration between the two companies.

Digital Assistance to Choose Your Next Digital Printer
Inkjetinksight.com has launched a new service to help companies objectively evaluate the potential of inkjet for their business. Users can login to the new Device Finder database and identify possible print solutions based on criteria such as: productivity, ink type, type of input, and target application.
With so many devices coming to market, it can be difficult to stay abreast of all the options and find the solution that best meets your needs. Device Finder includes information from OEMs and product literature, to offer the overview needed to make informed purchase decisions.
The launch has been funded in part by project sponsors Canon Solutions of America, HP, and Ricoh. OEMs are invited to review the collected data.
Getting the Most from your Printers
Meanwhile, in Print Monthly this month, Rob Fletcher has been researching atmospheric control technology in advance of The Print Show 2017 at Telford International Center, 11 – 13 October.
He argues that humidifiers play an important role in any print shop and shouldn’t be overlooked amidst the buzz and excitement surrounding the launch of new presses.
Industrial humidifiers can optimize the use of energy, increase the lifespan of printing equipment, and create a healthier working environment. Optimizing humidity levels through the process will also help with the product quality – minimizing static, web breaks, paper curl, and paper creasing – and, ultimately, delivering increased productivity and less waste.
