The magic of handwritting letters
Meet the two design studios and greeting card companies that are leading a campaign to promote handwritten correspondence.
In April 2014, the entire staff of Egg Press and Hello!Lucky, their friends, families, and fans participated in the Write_On Challenge – each writing 30 letters in 30 days.
Three years on, Write_On is still on a mission to promote joy, creativity, and connection.
The campaign invites everyone to write one letter every day through the month of April, National Letter Writing Month.
The idea is that 30 days is enough time to create a lasting habit.
Its organisers say:
“Write_On offers a path for slowing down and engaging with loved ones in a meaningful way, expressing ourselves, and noticing and savoring the present moment.”
The campaign was inspired by Egg Press founder Tess Darrow in 2014 when she realized, despite owning a shop full of beautiful greetings cards, she was not devoting as much time to correspondence as she would have liked to.
Egg Press is a greeting card company, design studio and letterpress print shop based in Portland, Oregon. The company is considered one of the local pioneers in the resurgence of letterpress printing and designs and produces all of its greeting cards and small-batch textiles in-house.
Hello!Lucky was founded in 2003 by sisters Eunice and Sabrina Moyle. The San Francisco-based design studio also specializes in letterpress greeting cards and its cards are stocked in such stores as Paper Source, Urban Outfitters, Waterstone’s, and museum stores worldwide.
